We are incredibly grateful to have had the “Sweethearts & Heroes” team visit our school this February! Students gathered in the auditorium to learn about the impact that bullying has on our school, our community, and to us as individuals.

The assembly was lead by Tom Murphy, an energetic motivational speaker and mixed-martial arts fighter who is passionate about spreading the message on anti-bullying, bystander empowerment, kindness, and empathy. Tom was joined by United States Army Retired Sergeant Rick Yarosh, who was badly injured in Iraq. With 2nd and 3rd degree burns covering nearly 60% of his body, an amputated leg below the knee, and limited function in both hands, Rick’s message is one of overcoming adversity and turning a negative situation into a positive one.

Students took to the stage and acted out “heroic” situations against bullying behaviors. They learned how to be a "Sweetheart"- (carrier of hope) and "Hero"- (someone willing to “Jump into Action” and do what other are not willing to do), especially for those who need it the most.

This was truly an inspiring event. Thank you to the Sweethearts and Heroes team for visiting our school and teaching each and every one of our students here at Fort Ann Central School the importance of sharing hope to those who need it the most.
